Camping Trip Before Thyroidectomy

My Thyroidectomy is coming up soon (Thursday, August 7th).  But, I have been feeling well enough after the last surgery that we were able to get in a short camping trip.  By some miracle, I found a Yurt to reserve for two nights.  We had never taken the kids camping…so it was an adventure for all of us.  It went really well!  Renting a yurt is the way to go with small children!  We had a great time walking the 1/4 mile from the campground to the beach, flying a kite, making smores, and looking at the stars from the viewing window in the yurt roof. Surgery #2 Tomorrow

We’ve been staying busy…enjoying some Summer weather, ‘potty training’ Beckett (went really well), and working.  It’s already time for my next surgery tomorrow.

Would you believe I caught a mild cold last week?  What is it with me getting sick before surgery?  It’s not too bad though and I’ve tried to load up on vitamins and water.

Surgery #2 should be a lot easier than the last one.  It’s just a 2 hour (or so), outpatient, reconstruction surgery.  I check in at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow with a scheduled Surgery Time of 8:00 a.m. (we’ll see how that goes…surgeons are usually running late).  I hope to be leaving OHSU by early afternoon if all goes well.

I’m not sure how drugged I will be tomorrow and the next day so I’ll have Jeremy update a blog that I’m out of surgery.

I made a huge pot of Organic Chicken Soup from scratch yesterday, washed about 10 loads of laundry in the last 2 days, caught up with some work, changed all the bedding in the house, and set up my Post Surgery box next to my bed (movies, books, meds, etc.).

The positive side to surgery tomorrow…I get to rest in bed!  (No kids to take care of, laundry to do, dishes to wash, dinners to cook, or decisions to make at least for a few days).  I actually get to sleep in!  Sad it takes surgery to get a small break but at least I’m able to find the ‘silver lining’. 🙂

As always, thanks again for ALL your continued thoughts, prayers, and support!
